Real Case of Xinyu Geosynthetics: Mekong Delta Fishpond Improvement Project, Vietnam

Overview

Starting Date: Apr. 9, 2023

In 2023, Xinyu Geosynthetics collaborated with a Mekong Delta Vietnamese aquaculture cooperative and supplied LLDPE Geomembranes to a massive fishpond project. The aim was to enhance water quality, encourage enhanced fish growth, and minimize operation for local farmers of fish and shrimp. Our LLDPE Geomembrane ensured effective barrier building and pond re-conversion into a clean, efficient, and sustainable farm that the cooperative enjoyed to its full capacity.

Problems Existed

• Contamination of water and soil is not good for fish.
• The sloping of the pond horizontally occurs as a result of tidal force and heavy downpour.
• One should utilize an optimally serviced, maintenance-free system to enhance productivity in fish farms.

Xinyu Geosynthetics provided a high-strength LLDPE Geomembrane liner used in aquaculture. The liner excluded fish from contact with soil. Therefore, there is a need to prevent the migration of harmful chemicals like alkalis and acids into water, prevent disease, and the active life of fish. Its surface also improved the prevention of exclusion of waste, protection of slopes, and erosion. The product information used are as follows:

Implementation

LLDPE Geomembrane lined 20,700 m² fishponds with 0.75 mm in shallow water and 1.0mm where strength was required. Its 1*10⁻¹⁷ cm/s permeability coefficient could withstand Vietnam’s tropical climate—temperature variation from -70°C to 110°C, UV exposure, strong alkali, and acid. In-situ training of Xinyu personnel ensured proper installation and welding to provide a leak-free, long-lasting seal.

Results Interpretations

• Improved Water Quality: The liner eliminated the build-up of waste and chemical spills, resulting in better fish and shrimp health.
• Improved Efficiency: Weed—and sludge-free bottom reduced fishing time by 30% and enhanced yield.
• Protection of Slope: Erosion was avoided, and rains did not affect pond stability.

Mekong Delta Fishpond Development Project is a life reconstruction miracle thanks to Xinyu Geosynthetics’ LLDPE Geomembrane.
