Date: Sept. 16, 2022

Customer’s Problem and Project Background

A northern Bangkok river dam needed extensive upgrading. Monsoon rains and soft soil created stability problems. Leaks could lead to water seepage and destroy the foundation. The contractor had high quality standards. They wanted to utilize materials to reinforce the strength of the dam, drain water from the system, and seal leaks. Chemical-filled river water also required corrosion resistance. Xinyu Geosynthetics were hired to supply a robust, reliable solution.

Xinyu’s Solution

The very Thai contractor contacted Xinyu Geosynthetics in September 2022 through our website, xinyugeo.com. They were satisfied with our project introductions and sent us an inquiry message. Having caught a glimpse of their dam structure and situation, we suggested the utilization of PP Staple Fiber Needle Punched Non-Woven Geotextiles, geomembrane, and drainage net.

Implementation of This Project

Thailand Dam Project Supported By Xinyu GeosyntheticsDrainage Geotextile Used in the Drainage System of Soil

  1. Site Preparation: The construction team demolished the base of the dam, shoveled aside loose soil going with the debris, and laid down a level sand foundation.
  2. Material to Layer: Xinyu 300 g/m² geotextile was laid and pinned tightly in place for water filtering and stabilization of the ground. Then the 0.7 mm HDPE geomembrane to prevent leakage. On top of that was the geocomposite drainage net to direct water away safely.
  3. Securing Layers: Stakes secured everything, and overlap was never gap. Installation was for stability and fluidity.
  4. Final Steps: Gravel was packed tightly over materials. This protected the system and increased the firmness of the dam.

Results

  • Solid Foundation: Soil erosion was prevented by geotextile, and the dam remained solid during rain loads.
  • No Leaks: Seepage was prevented by geomembrane. The groundwater returned to be clean.
